garmin speed sensor not working after battery change

I'm not sure if the speed data on Strava is from the sensor, or if its using GPS? This week I tried to change the Battery on my Garmin heart rate monitor ( HRM2-SS ). I just bought the Garmin speed 2 and cadence 2 sensor and paired with my Polar V650. Remove the cover and the battery .
